Does anyone know off hand what wire gauge the lead from the alternator is?

I have been working with that wire recently. It is a thick wire, perhaps 10 or 8 gauge. It goes all of the way in the wiring harness from the alternator to the amp meter in the the dash. You can see the actual gauge of the wire at the amp meter. The same gauge wire comes out of the amp meter and continues on the bus towards the battery.
