“BELLA MANGUSTA”
A new book about the Italian Art and Design that is presented in the DeTomaso Mangusta.
Written and photographed by Dick Ruzzin / 5-10-2016

I am looking for anyone in this group that might have book marketing experience and an understanding of the De Tomaso Mangusta.
_______________________________________________
VISION STATEMENT
TEXT:
I have created a book that focuses on the aesthetic design of the Mangusta and it's racing chassis, the related artistic history of Italy, the Mangusta designer and the design development and construction of the car. The key people involved will be featured as well as the car itself.

IMAGES:
The book will be perceived as an art piece. A large number of images with high contrast that are visually entertaining will be used covering the interior, exterior and engine compartment of 8MA670. All images are full color taken at two dramatic venues, one in the snow on a 12 degree day, the other on a spring day at a historic home on Grosse Pointe Shores outside of Detroit.

>The book should be a “must have” simply for its visual appearance. Read this book and you will know more about the Mangustathan 99% of those who own one<

AVAILABILITY:
The 50th anniversary of the creation of the Mangusta will be celebrated in late August of 2016 in Monterey California at the Concourso Italiano. The book should be ready for that event. A press event and reveal can be staged there.

MISSION STATEMENT

>Text:
A 7000 word text has been written, refined and sent to a number of professionals who have returned comments and corrections.

>Images now available:
Seventy-one color images of 8MA670 are included.

>Title:
ROMAN sd has been chosen for the title font, it is seen cut in stone on Roman buildings, slightly modified with some creative design in execution.

Special drawings have been creates and included in the book. They are four view scale drawing of the production version of the car, black with a red grid system

>Endorsements:
Italian car historian Pete Vack from VeloceToday has made a wonderful endorsment that will be presented on the back page of the dust-cover. Others will be asked to endorse the book.

>Support Websites:
A sales website will be and marketing will be pursued.
Support will appear on Veloce/Today.com and DeansGarage.com also.
VeloceToday.com will put a series of three segments from the book, edited by Pete Vack and completed by August, they are already appearing.

All the best,
Dick Ruzzin

BELLA MANGUSTA,
The Italian art and design of the De Tomaso Mangusta.
Text, Photography and art work by Dick Ruzzin.

I am almost finished with the book, 124 pages, 70 images. I hope to have it launched at Concorso Italiano in August, this October will be the fifty year anniversary..

I have finished correcting the galleys which are the first printed pages for the book that are done for my evaluation. There are many outstanding images. An earlier edited smaller version is appearing on VeloceToday.com in three parts, the final part, 2300 words will appear there soon. It will be marketed through Google, Amazon, etc.

With 124 pages, text on the left and images on the right, I hope to appeal to the special interest auto community and especially De Tomaso owners and other Italian car fans. It is the only book that focuses on the design of the Mangusta, Giugiaro and Turin.

Of special focus is the forgotten fact that the Mangusta is built on the racing chassis conceived by Carrol Shelby and Alessandro de Tomaso, the P70. A car designer myself and a long time owner I am able to bring special insights into the creation of the Mangusta, how it evolved and why it is so very special. It includes much first hand information close to the period when the car was designed and first shown.

I will let everyone know when It will appear on the internet.
All the best,
Dick Ruzzin
Terry,
VeloceToday.com has their third and final edited chapter with seven of my images on today, take a look.

It is a lot of work, very tedious. I have to deliver to the book publisher, the text edited and correct, match the images to the text, there are seventy of them, number all the images and have everything coordinated as direction for them do the job.

It is complex. The images also have captions and the text is seven thousand words. Almost done, they have it now.

Hi Dick,
I am also in anticipation of the release of your book. My Mangusta is undergoing a full restoration, one week per month I travel a round trip of over 500 miles to help and spend time working on my car with Johnny Woods, each time I see the car I am spell-bound by her beauty no other car I have owned or seen (apart from the Monteverdi HAI 450 SS) has had that effect. I am honoured to own 8MA650 and feel all my efforts and expense (of which there is a lot) will be rewarded as we eventually get her finished ready for the main classic and sports car show here at the NEC Birmingham, ready to commemorate and celebrate its 50th year.
The stand next to us is Lamborghini, they are also celebrating the Miura's 50th so it should be quite a sight for us Brits Mangusta's and Miura's side by side!

Hope this isn't a stupid question but will we be purchasing the book direct from yourself or will there be a distributor i.e. designated book shop.

Well done for taking this on, for me and I guess many others it is very much appreciated, a tribute to the most beautiful and iconic car for me ever made.

Best Regards Richard.
LETTER TO FRIENDS ABOUT THE BOOK.

>BELLA MANGUSTA, The Italian Art and Design of the De Tomaso Mangusta.

Some of you know that I have written a design book. Many do not, so I am taking the opportunity of the launch of the website for BELLA MANGUSTA to inform everyone. I have been writing about my car for years, many articles have appeared in magazines about it, always with my personally written text behind the name of the credited writer.

About five years ago as the De Tomaso Mangusta started to become noticed I realized that I had a unique opportunity. I had owned one for a very long time, I knew it well and I had the knowledge, experience and interest to write about it. More importantly I was uniquely experienced and able to write about the design. I had figured it out mechanically and aesthetically. I realized that no one else that I knew who owned one was likely to do that.
I had the ability to “Reverse Design” my car and to write about it in a way that was easily understood.

Since retiring I had been developing my communication skills, learning to become adept at explaining how design works and how creativity and aesthetic content were applied to car design. I combined the many writings that I had and tried to have my design story printed, sending it to a number of very good magazines in the USA and Europe Everyone loved it but it did not fit the “profile” of their publications, something new to me but very understandable.

Then Automobile Quarterly accepted it and wanted to publish it but they first went out of business. A photographer had photographed the car at the Ford house I then moved it to another spot and took a number of pictures myself. Two years later I decided to put the images together with my text and to create a book. I added more images last December after our first snow in 12 degree weather, the only pictures of a Mangusta ever seen in the real world in the snow.

I developed the book as I went along the way I would any other design project, combining the text, 7000 words on the left and the 64 large full color images on the right. My book has an artistic theme and is also designed for students….

Thank you for spending the time to read this, please take a look at the website, you will find images and pages from the book.

The official purchase method is to go on the internet. Go to: http://www.bellamangustadesign.com/

The publisher is Xlibris under Books, it is hard to find there. Go to the website first as you will see pictures and some of the pages.

If anyone has a recommendation I will put it on the site.

All the best.
