Hello, does anybody know of a modern rack and pinion replacement for the original Mangusta one? I am starting to work on my suspension for 8MA584 and I thought I should try to find out if there is a better, quicker ratio rack that has fewer turns lock to lock than the one that came with the car. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Leea, thanks. I talked to that guy on the phone last week so I will contact him and get more information about rebuilding my original rack and pinion.
Greg, otherwise, well, I suppose there are a lot of other potential choices if you want to work harder...The Mangusta rack is supposedly shared with Renault R4/Dauphine, but the Mangusta rack is unique (at least, the casting itself appears to have been only for the Mangusta). V8jets's solution has got to be worth a few hundred dollars if you can really keep exactly the same mounting...Lee

Greg, here is a reference to the R4 Steering rack, in the build sheet (2nd page, on the left).
What is remarkable about the build sheet is how little unique information it holds...Nothing about build date, color, etc...The attached for 8ma1266 (one of the last cars). And could be that the biggest problem is reading the Italian handscript, but interesting here if the carb then was really a C6ZF-C (instead of C8ZF-C used most 302s), and also interesting to have alloy rear brake calipers (the when I thought everything went to cast iron around ~8ma1050...)...Just demonstrates that at the end of the 400 cars DeTomaso had planned to build, they were using up what was available...Lee

I’ve sent Greg details about rack. I had one made with 2.4/2.6 (can’t remember) turns lock to lock by a motorsports company, Titan Engineering in UK.
Kept original. Can recommend it, steering not heavy even with small racing wheel. If anyone else interested send me a message and I can provide details as I need to let Titan know it’s ok to use “my” drawings, which am happy to do to any Mangusta owner.
