Mechanism that locks the quick fill gas cap?

Putting the #9073 back together after spending the last 5 years in pieces.

I wonder, what is the mechanism, that locks the quick fill gas cap? Is that weird, rusty piece of twisted metal the answer? It looks like something is missing, but what?

I took some pics of my external filler cap, however I now notice mine(5177) is a different design than ours. I also noticed mine is missing a piece!

Thanks! Mikael seemed to have the very same version, and the photo explained everything perfectly. So I will have to do some metal work now.

Yes, I did. Only one of four was in good condition, so it was an easy decision to do. GTS flares are ready and waiting to be riveted on their places (as this gts had already when it left the factory in 1977).
