I looked at them many years ago. They were very expensive and I didn't see any dealers at the time in the states. I would have like one or even two as it is the holiday.

I have a 4 post Direct lift and very pleased with it, it cost $2500 all in including the rolling jacks, trays etc. and delivery. It came with casters so you can move it around if needed.
The sliding jacks allow you to lift the car off the ramps so it offers almost the same accessibility as a 2 post. I wanted it mostly for the double stack parking capability.
I also bought 2 of the cheaper $1600 lifts for the race trailer, cut their width down and installed them to make a 5 car stacker. To date it has all worked extremely well and they are weight rated higher than the traditional trailer lifts which are three times the price.
IMHO, the side lifts have one big advantage: you can work on a ZF or on suspensions from underneath while all the others restrict some areas. I have an old single-post lift from a gas station and it has that problem in the center of the car. Never satisfied....
I have a Unic portable side lift. I've had it for about 15yrs and still love it. It's totally portable, so when not in use...it doesn't take up shop space. I can roll it wherever I want. Really trips out the neighbors when I've got a car 6 feet in the air on the driveway.
A word of caution re the side lift on ebuy. I had a Ford Ranger at full lift on a twin of that lift and it did the 'impossible' by tipping back on the bumper. I solved the problem without injury or damage. I had lifted scores of sedans without a problem and the lift was great.
Because of the Pantera weight distribution, the lift points, and the wheel base, I can not think of any reason why I would ever want to lift one on that type of lift. Way too dangerous.
The side lift does have one redeeming use. Once a car is lifted off the floor it is possible for one person to wheel it about a shop with ease.
i have a fixed 4 post. If you have the space it remains the best i think.Ok, sometimes the ramps are a bit in the way to reach easely that one bolt but on the other hand they are a great working space for tools and support around you and car. Here i switched the transaxle gearbox and complete rear suspension of my 928 ... piece of cake.
George's cautionary statement is valid, however I don't find the need for special attention enough for me to not use it. This is my second mid engine build with it, and once you identify the appropriat lift points, you only need to be sure to use them. The flexibility it offers in a home shop environment (limited space) is worth the effort (IMHO of course ;-)
