My car has been sitting for a while with another issue that I corrected yesterday. I tried to start it up today and it tried to fire, ran rough, and died. It would not start or even fire at all. Very unusual for my car. It has EFI and will usually start right up without issue. I pulled the air filter and observed the fuel injectors spray fuel while cranking. I pulled a plug, grounded it, and watched for spark. It did spark but I was not sure it was all that it should be. I pulled the distributor cap and found the carbon electrode had failed. What used to be a round tipped electrode is now concaved up inside the housing. I had another cap and rotor so I swapped it out and the car fired up on the second try.

So to my question. Is this a fluke or normal? It only has about 2500 miles on it. This could have been bad if the car was not in my garage.
