I live on a cul-de-sac...when I first got my car I tried to Powerslide the hairpin...seems the Pantera wants to go in the direction it is pointed...no matter where you have the wheel. It hooks so well. I quit before I ended up in my neighbors front yard. Maybe I can petition the town to bank it?

I dunno George. I one time almost lost it because I hit a patch of gravel in a turn and she came swinging out rather violently. I recall it not being real controlable drift and it took the whole road swinging back side to side. It is a kinda uncomfortable feeling. I think front engined cars are better suited to drift control. But that is just my opinion.

Seems like everyone has a different dream. How come the girls don't take thier cloths off and throw themselves at my car like the people said they would if I bought it?

Because the majority of the weight is upon the driven wheels, the Pantera, like any mid-engine car, will torque steer. This means if you get loose in one direction due to power & let off the gas, the rear end will violently swing in the other direction. The proper technique when the rear breaks lose is to stay on the gas, back off gently, feather the accelerator pedal. With it's low CG, the Pantera should make a bitchen car for drifting. The sport of drifting is about intentional controlled power slides, not the unexpected slide like you described. Just takes CAJONES GRANDE DeTom!

I could see Doug doing this, yelling WAAAAHOOOOOOO all the way through the drift! I think it would be a blast to compete in this sport.

From what I've seen lately, most of the younger generation as you say can barely afford a Hyundai let alone a Pantera.

DU, I can't afford one and I have one. This is about creating dreams. Dreams can be what legends are made of.
Having thy neighbor covet your detomaso is important to the survival of the species.

I don't really think of drifting as a sport. I see it as a ricers past time. I don't watch it. (some of the wacked out mustangs arn't much different then ricers)

I do drifting in my work car all winter because I have to. I'm not about to go do it for fun.

I'm with you comp2. I just can't get excited about turning rubber into tire smoke. Maybe I'm gettin old. I do like the control though. I prefer a bit of oversteer to point the car with the loud pedal.

Dennis, eventually the younger, can't afford a Hyundai, crowd grows up. When I first saw a Pantera, I couldn't afford one, but 20 years of dreaming, and I have one sitting in the garage. If I didn't have that first love 20 years ago, who knows what would be sitting in the garage today.

As far as drifiting 6808.........NO F'n WAY!

I don't know if drifting is a sport, but I first seen it by accident at Irwindale speedway when I was drag racing. They where practicing in the oval track area next to the strip.

If you get a chance, go see this in person it is unreal how fast they go and how much control they have. I know it sounds kind of stupid. But the sights, sounds, and smells really are something to experiance in person.

If you like any kind of auto racing this will give you chills it is really exciting at least for an hour!

I saw a demo of drifting at the Barret-Jackson Auction. I agree on the sights and sounds but to be honest the burnt rubber cloud that rolled over the crowd will make you gag!

Looks like fun! Can I use your car and you pay for tires?

Looks like real fun as long as I was driving someone elses' car and had a tire manufacturer as a sponsor. Regular track days are about as much abuse as I want to subject my car to at the present time since I have to pay the bills.

You got it! When you are participating in high speed events you are running your own race team.

I did this for a while and dedided that I can't work a job to support a family and a race team, I can't afford my own pit crew, I can't get the car to the track race it and get it back.

When you get into things like vintage racing it gets very, very serious and to be competative is signifigantly expensive.

My compromise was to forget about track time and terrorize everyone on the street.
I have to be careful here because I usually get carried away and start to name names and describe incidents.

If I stop here everyone will think that I am an inocent dillusional with self immages of grandure.
