I am going to be changing the color of my car, and wanted to hear what everyone thought. Right now I am thinking of going either orange (like the Murci) or black.

I think black makes the car look more modern, sophisticated and polished.

Orange makes it look obnoxiously "shouty" and shamelessly exploitive - which is good because I will be using it to promote the clothing company.

I am open to other colors as well.

My personal philosophy is to not keep the car original, because it is already heavily modified (been converted to the GT5 look). So, I am not concerned with heritage colors. I am also going with larger, more modern wheels (but keeping the Campis).

This is a big decision and I am freaking out. I have been involved in a lot of conversations about color, but never put thought into what color my "dream Pantera" would be.

Any opinions would be welcome. :-)

Go to a good paint store (automotive of course) and lok at the House of Colors book. Make sure you even look in the accent and pinstripe color section. This is were I found the red for my Vette. They said the color was pinstripe/accent only cause it took to much pigment. Whatever I liked it best and that is the color it got.
House of Color has a lot of great colors. If you like black they have some great colors that look black at night but have blues or purples in them during the day. Check it out.
I would recommend whatever that you first get the wheels and put on the car. A nice set of wheels can totally alter the stance and look. Then it will provide a better canvas to feel out what you think might fit your personality.

I had two black Vettes and swore I'd never have another black car.

Don't discount doing a two tone, I have always thought this GT5's dual tones worked well together.

I love black, but I don't want a car that always looks dirty, especially since I will use it locally for promotion. Sure, I would have it detailed for an event, but I don't want it to look bad when just driving around or parked in front of my office. Is black THAT bad?

After looking at Mark's rainbow of Panteras, I still like my idea of orange. Maybe like the Superleggera, orange with dark gray accents.

I like white A LOT, but the car always washes out in pictures. Plus, I want that extra punch.

Hopefully I can come up with some Rever graphics that do it justice. I have never seen a Pantera with graphics other than race cars.

Mark

I've seen a Pantera painted that color, it was for sale at Mayberry's either last year or in 2007 (I'm at that CRS age) and it looked gorgeous. Good choice.

I'm gonna vote for orange - is this the 'pearl orange' folks have been mentioning?

I think it would look awesome on a widebody cat ... maybe a shade more red in the mix (if they'll do that for you) so you're not copying, but creating your own colour! You don't want to be sitting in traffic looking like all the other supercars! Wink

Sheesh, and I'd made a vow to myself not to talk about politics, religion or car colours when I joined the forum.

It might change if someone comes up with a better orange.
Mark

Than your car will look like this Swedish badass!
That is a great orange. Lambo has another orange that is not with the brilliant, but a bit more red, and "burnt orange" in it. Have painted a HD tank with it, and will use it on a Countach replica I'm building.

I like the original orange colour for my DeTomaso ...

For my taste there are colours that are meant to be with certain cars - they just seem to look "right". Orange is one of those colours for the DeT Pantera.

BTW Have a look at the DeT cars presented on the intro page to have another perspective on how the cars look in various colours

P.S. Mark and David: Are you surprised?

If you want a Pantera that is one of a kind, try a mirror paint job. I saw some pictures of a Cobra done that way and it is truly awesome. Plus it blinds spectators and cops trying to get your liscense plate numbers. At night jerks who flash their brights at you will get it right back. And it reflects lazer beams up into the sky so no more speeding tickets from radar and them sneaky lazer beams cops use.

Dude don't worry about black and showing dirt. Unless you are in mud & such it really isn't bad, and the badass shine from black is great. I drive my black 5S now and then, and the only part of the car that gets where it shows dust etc is the engine bay, but even then you have to get your face in there. After a drive it does show some dust in there, but a light swipe with a duster gets it out. This is my first black car, and I can tell the difference in the engine bay from a good drive with the black car compared to red & dark cranberry...it is more dusty. Other than that, I love the lambo pearl orange. I know a guy doing a carbon fiber GT5S style car and he is going with lambo pearl orange. Cant wait to see that thing. I think whatever you do will be great if you can tie in the interior with it somewhat with piping etc, that really makes the car in my opinion is the entire build interior/exterior combo.

Talk about orange, I still miss my orange Pantera! Frowner
As you can probably guess, the weather here in Toronto is keeping me from enjoying the car and I'm going a bit stir crazy Eeker

But seriously Robert, I'm hoping your repairs are going well and that you've settled on a paint scheme that will make you happy - These cars are so beautifully designed, they can take almost any colour and look great (from dignified to wild).

NOTE: I said "Almost", so I don't want anyone pointing out the one or two examples of truly demented taste that exist in the world.
