Needed Inspiration

When I restore cars I start a spread sheet to keep up with task. The spreadsheet is a work in progress with the car. It is a combination of general direction as well as a place to keep notes and sort out my thoughts.

It starts out as simple as:
Dissasemble
clean
repair
repaint
re-assemble

as I make progress, each task gets further deffined and sorted out. I make notes on the bulleton board, cross off and add. I update the sheet and throw it back up. It is always being updated.

The sheet gives me pretty good direction, keeps the project scope and makes me see the progress I am making even though it doesn't feel like it.

Right now I have about 40 items left to do before taking it off dolly back to rotesory. Then a dozen things to do, back on the dolly for paint prep. Many items with sub items.

One more thing, the sheet migrates into a follow up sheet after restoration. I still have a half dozen small things I want to do to the MG after it's restoration. It is a good thing to work from even after the car is restored.

I'm not lacking organization in the project just the dispoable time needed to make better progress.Because of that I have to be highly organized or I would never get anything done.

A 6 hr job takes me 3 weeks with all of the obligations in the shop and with family etc.
I'm not complaining (even though it sounds like it)it's just the way it is.

That is why following projects like yours is great to watch as you move along pretty good.
And I know it will all get done eventually.

Believe me when I say I know how you feel. Im sure there are a bunch of guys here that can sympathize. With all the commitments I had it took me close to ten years to get mine driveable and its still not done. Just keep plugging away when you can and it will come together in due time. Looks like the conversion is coming along nicely and those wheels look great!

Pretty sweet Brooke. It will be worth the wait. I like the fit and the color - the wheels look awesome aginst that contrast. Are you staying with the blue?

David,at this point I am planning on painting the car Black. It is originally a red car from the factory and has gone through a few color changes on it over the years and a ton of filler has been added as you can see in the pics. Lots of work ahead there.I think black is stunning on these cars. Peter H's car is awesome.

Blaine thanks for your comments. I have seen the pics of your car. Its amazing. The engine compartment is a engineering marvel.

Sorry Brooke, it looked blue on my iPhone. Now I see its black. It will be great.

I also love Peter's car. It's just too hard to keep black cars clean. And all those blemishes and marks show up like lightening bolts.

The lighter the car, the easier it is to bash around!
