Last night our POCA chapter (San Diego) had a joint monthly meeting with the local Shelby Club. The guest speaker was Matt Johnson, owner of the new Chuckwalla Valley Raceway (CVR).

CVR is located between Palm Springs and Blythe, Ca in the town of Desert Center. The track layout and planned amenities look really good. Track is scheduled to open in April, 2010.

They bought several hundred acres of land that also included the old Desert Center airport.

For us pilots, they have kept the runway and we are able to fly in. ID: L64, elev. 559', length 4200', rwy 5/32.

Hopefully it doesn't end up like the Drag City track that is about 40 miles west

The owners of the new raceway went to the neighbors and all but two were for it. The owners were able to ah, negotiate (I think that was the term used) with the two parties that were uncertain.

They have the permits, a large portion of the grading has been done, base has been placed, asphalt is being laid, and I think he said that the paddock was finished.

Desert Center is an unincorporated town with a population of about 150, so they would probably welcome almost any new business.
