The Steve Sanderson Charitable Foundation will rock North Texas with its Celebrity Motorsports Classic on Sunday, May 5, 2002, at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. This star-studded event will feature rides in the world famous Shelby Cobra and Series 1 sports cars, famous celebrities racing, a scheduled autograph session with Carroll Shelby, CAR SHOW, racing and live concert by movie star Dennis Quaid and his band The Sharks. The event will help raise money to fight illnesses such as Alzheimer's Disease.
The fee to participate in the show is very reasonable and includes a ticket to the concert. Any Cobra with a CSX or COB number (sorry, no kits or AC Mark IVs), Pantera, Shelby Mustang, Tiger, Shelby Mustang clone or performance Mustang, as well as original GT40's, Series 1s and Vipers are invited.
The Celebrity Motorsports Classic will attract top racing legends and a wide range of superstars at the Texas Motor Speedway. This is a fantastic opportunity to ride in a wildly fast sports car with a famous driver such as Tom Sneva or Bob Bondurant, meet Carroll Shelby and Cheech Marin, as well as party with Dennis Quaid. It will be a family affair with activities and music for everyone, all while raising money for a great cause.
Fresh on the heels of his hit movie, "The Rookie," Dennis Quaid will bring his band, "Dennis Quaid and the Sharks," to headline the charity event. Critics have said the band provides an exciting American rock and roll experience with Jerry Lee Lewis-like guitar and vocals, as well as visual spectacles that leave the crowd cheering. Singing classics like "Gloria" and "Great Balls of Fire," the group is a true rock band with Quaid's exuberance coming through on stage. The concert will begin Sunday evening after the racing activities.
The public will have the chance to experience the legendary Shelby Cobra, which has won sports car and racing championships worldwide. A 427 Cobra, Shelby Series 1, 289 Cobra and a factory racing Cobra will be at the event. Individuals will have the opportunity to ride in one of the performance models on the challenging Texas Motor Speedway. In addition enthusiasts can view hundreds of classic Shelby performance vehicles, watch Tom Sneva and Bob Bondurant race for time, purchase memorabilia and sign a birthday card for the 40th birthday of the Cobra.
The cost for show entry will be $25 per car, which includes a ticket to all the day's events, trophies and concert by Dennis Quaid and the Sharks. Participants can pay $25 for one additional ticket per car (regular admission is $55 and kids 14 and under are $20).
We will begin registration at 11 AM that day, judge at 5 PM and the cars can leave from 5 to 6, or wait until the concert ends (which begins at 6 PM).
This event is sure to be one of the most memorable motorsports spectaculars in North Texas. The line up of celebrities will make this the most exciting fund raising event in North Texas. We believe this event will be a tremendous success due to the tremendous level of support from the public, sponsors and celebrities.
