How much is enough to fill the zf? I filled up until it spilled out buttoned it up. Now have some oil leaking from the plastic cover plate on the upper zf. Do I let some out? What is the proper amount of oil. Thanks

PLASTIC COVER PLATE??? You mean the cover on the inspection hole in the bellhousing? You would have oil leaking from here only if the seal on the input shaft snout was leaking, and if so, you will surely soon, if not already, have to replace an oil soaked clutch disk if not also resurface flywheel and rebuild/replace the pressure plate.
What hole did you use to 'fill up'?? Fill hole is a 17mm 'innie' plug on the driver's side of the tranny, pretty much hidden under the box that has the back up light switch mounted to it. Filling takes a while, you can't rush it, and you want to go for a drive, let it all settle, and then recheck level. It should be up to the bottom threads of the fill plug hole. Fully empty ZF needs just shy of 4 quarts. Hope all this helps at least some.

Opened the plate looks dry.Thank god.. Seems something spilled and looked like it was coming from there. Put in Synthetic in the ZF 75/90 and it leaks? any suggestions? go back to non-syn?
Synthetic oils will tend to leak when used to replace dino oils in older equipment. Did you also switch motor oil? Could be motor oil leaking from the rear crank main seal. You should be able to tell 30 WT from the heavier trans oil, tho. Anything dripping off the bottom of the car?

Did not replace motor oil. Stuck my head under there and it is the ZF fluid I can tell very clean and clear. really not bad of a leak. I will live with it until next fluid change. The syn seems to make shifting smoother. I should have gone with a heavier oil but could not find one.
