I just now redid my throttle cable so that the secondaries actually open when you floor the gas pedel. I thought that would double my horsepower but I was wrong. My seat of pants dynomometer says, ten, maybe twenty horse power. I was a little dissapointed because I do think high compression heads really do add horsepower despite what people may tell you. BUt then I filled up today with regular and felt lots better. Having to buy a bottle of octane boost every tank is a pain in the butt. Regular gas sells for less than premium too. So not having neck snapping performance is ok. Maybe once my motor is no longer under warrenty I will put the old heads back on. But then I will have to start buying octane boost again. What a quandry.

DeTom,

The idea is to set the closed chamber heads up with the right amount of "squish" clearance, then adjust the compression ratio with a dish in the piston dome that is a mirror image of the shape of the combustion chamber. The compression ratio sould be set up to work with the octance of fuel, cylinder head, and the camshaft you are runnng. When in doubt, the cam manufacturer should be able to tell you what compression ratio to run.

Then you have the whole thing optimized on a dyno, carb and ignition calibration.

Finally, do the tune ups your self.

Thanks George. What I really notice about the new low compresion motor is that after 5000 RPM it just kinda gives up. It goes real well up to five grand and then starts lolly gagging. THe old motor screamed all the way up to redline. I don't even know how high it woulda gone if you forgot and left your foot in it, cause I never really wanted to find out. I did zip it up to seven grand once by not being quick enough and it didn't blow up or nothing. At least not that time. But man when you romped on the old motor, she sounded like a race car. New motor sounds more like a detroit muscle car.
But I will get over it. Don't need a whole bunch of power to just cruise around on.
