By coincidence, I found a non marching set of 10 inch original wheels.
They are coming form the first GR3 Pantera , VIN 1070, and are in good used condition.
However , very strangely, they are non matching ! One has large ribs, and the other one doesn't.
I sell them by the piece, starting with the one with no long ribs. If anyone is interested, please make me an offer in PM. If they don't sell through the forum, I will put them on the Facebook " Pantera marketplace " or on Ebay.
Happy holidays to those who are on the beach :>))

Hello Pat you have a message best Peter.
Guys,

I think we should give newbie Dick a little bit more friendly introduction to this forum.

With only three posts, I am guessing he is quite new to the entire Pantera world and $1000 for a single wheel was his honest offer. Those of us with years of ownership and experience under our belts know a good set of 10 inch wheels used to be at least $3000 and now $5000 or $6000 seems to be the norm? So I don't think we should really flame a newbie, who's only wheel pricing experience may be from Summit, eBay, or CraigsList. From that viewpoint, $1000 for a single wheel is a ridiculously high amount.

Dick, you mentioned you are restoring a GTS. Perhaps, based on your apparent newbie status, it should be confirmed that you actually have a true GTS.

There were approximately 150 Ford GTS cars, and numerous European-sold cars labeled as GTS.

Can you fill us in on what you have? If you have one of the Ford GTS cars, you will find the letters GT in the VIN number.

For sale adds are best left to buyers and sellers. No?

If Mr. Abraham would like to introduce himself to the forums that would be very nice, but he doesn't have to prove himself to anybody ... except Mr. Hals.

The proper place for an introduction would be in the forum named Alessandro's Neighborhood Pub, not here in Mr. Hals wheels for sale topic.
Story of?

So far, there is no story on the smooth wheel, just the ribbed ones.

I like the look of the smooth ones better.

The ribbed ones always looked a little to "boy racer" to me?

I get the part that the ribs are gussets, i.e., reinforcements and am wondering if there was actually evidence of the smooth 10's failing under stress?

So little is known about the 10's in general to begin with such as how many were made and even the original part numbers. To my knowledge they were never listed here in the US Ford parts books.

Having said all of that, did anyone else even know that there were smooth 10's until this ONE showed up?

Considering that they came off of such an early car to begin with that apparently was heavily raced, should I conclude that the ribbed wheel is a replacement for a broken original smooth wheel?

Just like "Jaws", you can't assume that there is/was only one safely?

You saw another set without gussets for sale?

One needs to specify now. The value for each type of 10" is not equal.

The most common are the staggered, one big, one small gusset.

So far THAT wheel is the ONLY one without any gussets. THE PROBLEM now is where are you going to find another?

A matched pair is ALWAYS going to be more desirable UNLESS you have the same issue in an unmatched set?

These likely are ONLY going to be from a factory build race car. Wink
Either way I would always caution buying 40 year old magnesium wheels.

If Dick is not aware there are new magnesium sand cast wheels available from Marvic for about the same price the used ones have been fetching. A cheaper aluminum alternative is also available from Roin Technology that are pretty faithful to the original design, available through Mr. Fiat or with $$ savings direct from Roin.

Sorry Doug, I thought you knew something of the history of the smooth wheel.

Simon

Thank you Simon, there are reasonable members on this forum besides flamers that ridicule without thought... I have been the owner of a 1974 Pantera (vin.#THPNPT07296) since 1976, I do all of my own maintenance and rebuilding, and have done business with all of the best known Pantera parts suppliers.I have just acquired a 73 Pantera GTS that starts with (vin.# THGTNE----) that I am refurbishing... I am well aware of the aluminum replacements, and the new soon to be produced Mag reproductions in Italy. The wheels offered for bid was an open bid and someone had to start somewhere... I do realize they don't match and there are additional cost like x-raying them for cracks and internal flaws that could make both of them worthless. Plus the cost of refurbishing them. That all goes into the cost of any future bid. I may be new to the forum, but did I meet any of you in Monteray last month? Nice to converse with owners that are willing to help other owners with needed info. Dick Abraham an old POCA member
