Am thinkinf of painting my ZF while it is out of the car. Any concerns? Any reasons not to do this?

I've seen this done a couple of times. One was black with all the ribs polished out. Others just a aluminum-like gray.
Like all painting, it is lots of prep to get the job to go right. And then you get to maintain it. Mine was media blasted at Quella's and I find a regular spray and brush down using Gunk Degreaser keeps things looking pretty good.
No reason not to paint - go for it.

When painting on aluminium you can use a washprimer on the bare metal first. This will improve the adhesion for the final paint.

I think it looks good. Just keep make sure your clutch slave never leaks.
