Thanks Gentlemen,

This is my quandary... where (and in what condition) is the price point that makes a project car worth the money.

I guess it depends on my wrench-turning abilities, and/or my bank account. Ha!

I just don't want to buy something too clean, and then feel sacrilegious when I want to make mods. I need something is the perfect level of rough, so that I can choose my variables, and still afford the project.

Time to start a wish list.
Rev. I will share my story with you hope it helps. When I was in the market 2 years ago I looked at many cars. The ones that were in acceptable condition that only needed small things to be drivable and presentable. These cars were in the $35k range. Some needed more work than others. My problem was that to be truly happy only a fully restored restomod would do. That is why I choose to go the project route. Finally 2 years of weekends the pantera will be ready for its first drive on Saturday. BTW the project car cost me about the same in money not counting my labor. How energetic do you feel?
Now you're talking! I might not even paint it right away. And road-warrior paint like that just begs for rivet-on Group 4 fender flairs. It's actually not that far off of what I'd build. But yes, the wheels gotta go. And I'd sell the orange seats to one of those guys who just loves their orange car.

Here's a question from a newbie...Since it's a 74, then it's an "L" model, right? (what's that mean anyway?) and that means that it originally had rubber bumpers....right? I'm totally OK with the delete there, but don't the L models also have the molded bump where the front turn signals mount? And thus, on this car, are those deleted too...IE custom body work? Or an older style front under-thingie (from when the signals were part of the mini-bumper)? Set me straight.
Also...just to ramble...
They must really want to talk to people, since there's no description. Does it make you assume that the motor is toast, or the tranny is shot, or?

PS I have much respect for all you guys that get to show your Pantera in your avatar (is that what it's called). In the other car circle I frequent, I have a rig that would command some respect, but here...well...I just leave it blank for now.

L models are the "Lusso" (Italian for luxury) models. L models were introduced in '72 so in '72 you had the pre-L with chrome bumperettes and the L with rubber 5-mph bumpers. www.provamo.com is an excellent website for information.

Well, Sale pending on the "bare metal" Pantera. Someone took the bait. A MUCH better deal is the matte black one that was just listed. Paint it, change the wheels and go for a LOT less money than the basket case car.

This is the same car that was on E-bay for $26k, now selling for 32K, I spoke to owner, said it has had a lot of sheet metal replaced (Rockers and floors).........I never saw the car in person but with that kind of work done, you would have to see it before buying. Just from the pictures you can see the lines below the door are not right. No factory drain holes for rockers, looks like there were some holes cut as an after thought.
