There may definitely be a new Pantera shown somewhere this year. The rumor or leak I have learned is that it is based on a full-on, limited production sports car, perhaps something like a Mosler type car but with an aluminum Pantera body in residence. It might be a V12 engine. Whether or not it will be a production car, it should be a real topic-starter at the least. Since the new Deauville is a "badge-engineered" Cadillac, re-fitting an extreme race/street going exotic keeps with the business plan. Let's hope the new Pantera has more eye-appeal and pizzaz than the sedan does.
On another topic, if anybody sees the new Fast Five movie, let us know if the Panteras the producers purchased actually made their way on-screen or not. Dave

If you are comparing prices from yesteryear of the last Pantera models produced to their contemporary sports car competitors at that time, the GT5-S in the late 80's sold for about $80,000 or so I believe, about the same price as the Porsche 911 Turbo. Adjusting for inflation and the value of the dollar from the mid to late 1980's, you'll find the value of the dollar has just about doubled from then till now. In other words, it would cost $160,000 to buy today what 80k bought in the late '80s. And to illustrate that the above numbers jive, a brand new Porsche 911 Turbo today cost about 160k.

Thus, if the new Pantera was to stay in the same price range as they were in the late '80's, the new Pantera should have a price target of around $160k or so. But with the sticker price of the new Pantera supercar to be set at around $360,000 apparently the gloves are off and they want to compete head to head against the Ferrari's and the Lambo's.

At a price that high, the best I can do now is buy the poster of the new Pantera supercar, just like I did when I was a kid, when I hung a picture of a Countach and a group 4 on my bedroom wall.

But its not all bad. With an all new Pantera supercar coming out with a price tag of $360k, surely it puts the marquee in the same class with the best supercars in the world.
