WOW it is good to be Papa John !

Would you pay $250,000 for a car you once loved?

Yesterday Papa Johns owner John Schnatter offered free pizza to all Camaro owners to celebrate the return of the 1971 Z28 Camaro he sold 25 years ago to help his dad’s tavern stay in business and ultimately launch Papa John’s. The search began earlier this year and was chronicled online at www.papasroadtrip.com. Schnatter offered a $25,000 “finder’s fee” to the person who could produce the title to his beloved long-lost Camaro. The family who originally purchased the car heard about the competition, and helped track down the current owner, Jeff Robinson of Flatwoods, Ky. Schnatter offered Robinson $250,000 for the car, which Robinson readily accepted.

“The Camaro represents what I gave up to start Papa John’s,” said Schnatter in a statement on his web site. “Words cannot capture the emotions I am feeling in getting back that part of my history. I didn’t have much back then, but for my business dreams to come true, I had to part with the one true asset I had to my name, and even then, there were no promises of success. I never gave up hope that someday I would get that car back.”

We have often discussed here that we are the caretakers of our cars and as caretakers we are not free to hack the heck out of them. I bet the owner of the Z28 was glad that he hadn’t hacked it and kept the original hood and other original parts. I know that some may argue that point but this Papa John’s situation gives you pause for thought doesn’t it.

Wow Adams was this when Dinos where priced in the 20s? Although some “F” people for years would turn up their noses it is one of my all time favorites.

I would love to have my first car a 1968 AMX. A 390 set up for drags. My friends in GM/Ford and Chrysler muscle cars hated getting smoked by a “Rambler”

Also I would like to have my first new car a 1973 Pontiac Trans Am. I sold it to buy my first Pantera #4060. Still can not locate #4060 and would love to see it again.
