Hi all,
I installed a four headlight conversion and a newer style fuse block (plug in). Everything works fine in the "headlights on" switch position (3 wire switch) but I have no parking lights only in the "parking light" switch position. All fuses are good. Headlights work hi and low beam, doors go up and down, and I have parking lights in the headlights on position. The inner lights are low beam and the hi beam column switch is on hi when pulled toward you. Is this normal? All wiring seems to be fine as per Kirks instructions using 2 relays. Am I missing something? Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Steve

The high beams should be on with the column switch pushed forward. This might just be a case of the connectors at the lights being swapped with your conversion.

As far as the parking light problem, it might be a faulty console switch, or mis-placed connector on the switch, considering they come on in other modes. Check the diagram for the headlamp switch.

Steve,

For the parking lights, it sounds like a bad switch. Is there power at the switch on the orange wire with the switch on (first position, parking lights only) ? Is the switch an original type, or is it something completely different ?

The headlights (hi / low beam) are reversed. Could be at the fuse panel or at the relays.

It is an original switch. There is power at the orange wire on "headlights on" only. When I put the switch back to "parking lights" the power to the orange wire goes off. The switch is fairly new, however I am going to change it with a newer rocker type switch as it is a custom consol but before I change anything I want to make sure that everything is working as designed, to make the change over easier. I have had the car since 1982 and have gone through 4 headlight switches over the years as the plastic deteriorates with time. The new switches will not do that. The whole dash is apart with no guages in it and no consol at the moment, making tracing wires that much easier.

The headlight conversion lights supplied looks exactly like the picture supplied. ie: The picture of the headlights looks like the real headlights in the kit. When wired as per instructions the inside lights come on in low beam. Maybe I will try switching the wires at the relays? Or should I switch the wires at the headlights?
Steve,

Your headlight switch problem is a typical problem for that switch. I recently had a console pulled part way out for some other work. Upon testing the switches, the parking lights would not work with the first click of the switch, but worked with the second click (headlights on position). Once I reinstalled the console and pushed the switch back into its "slot", everything worked correctly. Those switches don't like being "handled".

As far as which wires to change for the headlights, you could do whatever is the easiest (probably the relays), or keep the color codes correct.

If the high beam indicator in the tach is on only when the beam switch stalk is pushed away from the steering wheel (i.e. toward the front of the car), then the wires that are reversed are the ones at the headlights.

From the beam switch:
Green / black feeds fuses # 1 and 2
Gray / black feeds fuses #5 and 6

High beam (from fuses # 1 and 2):
Green and Green / black
The high beam indicator in the tach is usually fed from fuse # 1.

Low beam (from fuses # 5 and 6):
Gray and Gray / black
