What was the bottom line with the venue change? Did it feel like just another car show on asphalt?
Michael
The Pantera owners who spoke to me about the venue were OK with it and said they would return, after all, its still an opportunity to spend a day with your fellow owners, catch up with old friends, share stories. We still judged the cars and awarded trophies. Pantera owners voted with their attendance. Last year we had 60 cars, a good number, fairly average for Concorso attendance. This year we had 34 registered & 25 show up. Its hard to say what all contributed to the low attendance. There's the change of venue, some people may not have been happy with the move to an air field, others just don't like change of any sort. The economic situation has tightened money for some. And I didn't advertise the event in a magazine. All contributing factors I'm sure. All marques experienced the same low attendance and vendor attendance was down too.
It was a very large, flat, square shaped venue covered in asphalt. Spectator parking was conveniently close and also on asphalt; the spectator parking was a big improvement. The wind was too much in the afternoon, there's no natural wind break or trees, by 2:00 many people were ready to leave. Airports are normally built were the wind is strong to aid take-offs & landings. The asphalt reflected the sun's rays and everyone got sun-burned. The Concorso people did their best to give the venue a festive feel, with large white tents, flags, and such things. The event did not have the same ambiance as it did when it was held at a country club on the greens, but I would say it still had somewhat of an expansive, festive feel. More than a parking lot car show for sure. If you were used to the previous venue, this was a let down. I'm sure first time attendees were quite happy with their experience.

Here is a link to photo taken by one of the GT40 guys. I still find it strange not seeing grass under the cars.

Thanks for the link. I agree, rather strange without grass. CA has the best grass.
The venue was way down on cars from last year. To be expected considering the economy and the site change. Personally I did not mind the airport at all.
I spent about 30-40 minutes talking to Doug Timmons about his "DeTimmons" that I forgot to take any pictures of it. Very well sorted car with a lot of neat personal touches. Thanks for the words of wisdom to my son, Doug.
My real complaint about the entire weekend is there is just too much to do in three days.

Where can I see more shots of that new rear bumper? I'm not crazy about the front, which coesn't matter as I have a GT5, but that rear bumper accomplishes a few things that I have been trying to do on my own.

Thanks. I took a look.
Still not sure if I like that rear bumper. I have been trying to come up with a way to integrate my exhaust better and not have the big cans sticking out, and I like the pipes coming out of the hole, but the rest feels wrong.
Maybe if it was molded in rather than stuck on? But then it would be hard to remove.
