I received a letter from the Bank of America telling me they could not approve my application for a credit card. But…….I never applied for that credit card. After talking with them I learned they had received all of my identifying information. Note: my FICO rating is excellent. The only reason they did not issue that card is they could not pull any of my credit reports. That is because several years ago I took the necessary steps to prevent any of the three credit agencies from releasing my credit reports. Everyone’s identifying information is being collected and collated from innumerable criminal sources. I am very careful online and shred any documents with critical information; thank goodness I activated those three credit report freezes.

There is no charge to freeze your credit reports, but you must do it at all three agencies. It can easily be temporarily released should you need to apply for credit; it can then be easily reinstated. No fees to do so.
