I was talkig to a potential buyer for my 87 Grand National. We started talking Pantera instead. He has what he called a " Q " motor. 4 bolt on all mains. crankshaft for $400. What does the Q code mean? What I am contemplating ........is to aquire another motor that I could stroke and build, then just swap out.

He's likely referring to a 4V open chamber head motor. Should work fine for what you have in mind, assuming it's not already bore 0.030" over. I picked one up recently that was standard bore with no ridge, had the oil pan with the baffle and scraper, 4 bolt mains, and a set of closed chamber heads (someone had swapped out the open chamber heads).

Actually, in 69/70 a Q code was a 428CJ or SCJ (FE) w/o the shaker. The R code was the same motor with the Shaker.
