I took my P-car out yesterday for a spin, since the weather was nice here in Pa. I noticed an odd sound coming from the motor mainly during deceleration. Kind of sounds like a flappy sound. Hard to describe but very noticeable. I am wondering if it might be a noisy lifter or something else. The motor is not really old and it may have 4000 miles on it. I'd like an idea of where to look, and if it's a lifter how do I figure which one? I recently replaced my Hall big bore mufflers, since one side was bad. I don't remember hearing this before. Thanks for any help. I'll try to add details if someone needs and.

SINCE YOU WERE TUGGING ON THE HEADERS WHEN YOU PUT ON THOSE MUFFLERS; IT SURE SOUNDS TO ME LIKE YOU MAY HAVE CAUSED AM EXHAUST LEAK. ONE WOULD BE VERY SURPRISED HOW MUCH A LEAK CAN SOUND EXACTLY LIKE A COLLAPSED LIFTER. AND SINCE YOU SAY IT ONLY "FLAPS" AT ACCELERATION AND NOT AT IDLE, POINTS EVEN MORE TO AN EXHAUST LEAK. IN MY EXPERIENCE ANYWAY. GOOD-LUCK, MARLIN. P.S. THROTTLE THE ACCELERATER AS YOU LISTEN FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WITH HOOD OPEN, PERHAPS THEN YOU CAN PINPOINT THE PROBLEM. A LEAK WILL ALSO CAUSE A SLIGHT BACKFIREING UPON DECELLERATION WHILE DRIVING.
