George,

I figured I would throw it up here for discussion. I recently aquired a SVO R302 block brand new. AFR makes windsor heads for this motor and not sure of the choices. They make a AFR 185 and 225 and it seems a new version of the 225's but seems the 225's are for a real screamer. Any one have any input on this combination ?? Any input on a Stroker kit to bring it to a 366 cuin ???

Ron,

you know me, I don't like wrist pins intersecting the oil ring grooves, so my recommendation is 355 cubic inches, which is 4.155" bore & 3.25" stroke.

which heads will depend upon what powerband you want to give this bitchen little motor. I don't keep up with the Windsor world real well, but I would recommend either AFR or Trick Flow heads. Of course, new heads come on the market continuously, and Richard Holdener seems to run the Windsor world, so use whatever he is pushing at the moment! lol.....

Ron,

I ran across a stroker kit today using a 5.3" rod for the little Windsor motor, which allows a 3.4" stroke crankshaft without the wrist pin hitting the oil ring groove. That's 369 cubic inches dude! Rod length to stroke ratio is still 1.55:1.

I wasn't aware of the 5.3" rod, I thought the stroker kits all ran 5.4" rods.

george I totally agree ! stay out f the oil ring, I found a guy with some new parts, but another question ? what are twisted wedge heads ? He sending me a list, hes a Ford Engineer out of Detriot liquidaing his inventory. Hes got a couple new SVO blocks crank and heads. Let me now if yo need anything he is gong to end a list. He says hes gettingold and tired of the projects. Hes got a couple new Moledex cranks I have to check the stroke.
Ron,

Twisted Wedge heads are manufactured by Trick Flow for Windsors, SBC, they are not side canted like Cleveland heads, but the valves are not in line either. The heads are pretty good out of the box, and better with porting. The AFR heads, which use plain old in line valve geometry, normally beat them in head to head testing. So is the twisted wedge really any big advantage? I would buy AFR heads with my money. Or FRPP heads. Wink To the best of my knowledge quality control with the twisted wedge heads is spotty. Spotty quality control with aluminum parts raises a big red flag with me, because if they cheap out on the finish work, they probably cheap out on the choice of alloy and on the heat treating too.

I would love to see that list of parts when you get it, you know where I'm at!

I was real excited to see these come out, but would be likely an wasted overkill in my boat...

Not certain if their claims are substantiated yet, but if I were building a hyper Windsor, they would be a consideration warranting invesigation. I thought there would be some buzz about them by now from the guys who like to rev, but I don't browze the other ford/mustang/cobra forums regularly...
