I started this thread in order to get a definition of when a system is just cold air induction and when it becomes a true ram air system.

The performance cars of the 1960's and early 1970's had hood scoops and cowl induction systems that were considered to be ram air systems. Today it seems like the new trend is to call some of these systems cold air induction and I agree with that in many cases because some of these systems don't have a scoop or pull air from an inner fender. How much air has to be pulled into an engine scoop to have it be considered a ram air system? The side scoops that I am going to use on my Pantera are going to be ducted into a sealed air box. I know this will at least be a cold air induction system, but I also believe that there will be more air being forced into the air box from the scoops than the engine will be able to use. The up side to all of this is that at least the engine will now have a source of air that has not already gone through the radiator and under the car.
