I know that Steve is out of the country until the end of April. He left on a ten day trip to Italy -- he is hoping to score some good de Tomaso build information on the cars when he is there -- I wish him the best of luck.
Just to cap off this part of the thread. After finally getting answers from Steve Wilkinson, I wasn't happy with the reply. Even Steve's new axles are still under 40.000mm. I don't understand why you would bother to make a bunch of new axles and not get them made in the right size to allow a 'proper' press fit to the bearings.
Anyway, of all the people I contacted, only one had the right answers so I purchased billet axles from Precision Proformance. They arrived today and look very nice. Bob tells me that they are 40.0127mm and should require 2000lbs of force to press them on. About 0.0008 thou over 40.00mm.
I'll be using a double row inner bearing so will be cutting down my spacer tubes by 12.2mm.
