Mike,
Actually Im looking at buying Madguys trunk. His car is a 71, and mine is 72 post L. My bad trunk has holes for quickturn clips around the rim; I didnt see any such holes on Madguys trunk. I was wondering if it would fit, if there were any real size differences etc.

Cant tell for sure because of the picture but it looks like the 72 and later trunk to me.
Okay, here's my 2 cents -

Very early cars had the spare in the front trunk, and I believe the rear trunk for those cars did not have the molded-in area for the collapsible spare tire. Other than that, I don't think the two have any functional/dimensional differences.

My '72 pre-L, a June 1972 car, had the molded space for the tire as well as holes for the Dzus clips.

Looking at the parts list, it would appear that there is one trunk style before car number 1285, a separate one until Service number 50103 (what is that?), then another one starting at number 9000. See item #48 on http://www.pim.net/18.2pim.html
