2511 has one toasted driver's seat which needs to be replaced. I slammed forward so forcefully that the plastic harness pass-through opening in the seat back was half-torn out of the fabric/sytrofoam frame.

I know I won't be matching 20 year old seats, so I need a new pair. The old seats were probably from the SRD model series. A search for "recaro srd" finds eBay China copies of these seats, but I imagine they are not equal to what I had.

Anyone know of current, genuine Recaro seat models that work in our cars?

Thanks,

Larry

Larry,

Be wary of Chinese knock offs, they are everywhere and it's almost impossible to tell on some items.

I purchased a 'fake' Sparco seat, it had all the right markings and FIA sticker etc. and I'm sure would have passed a tech inspection, but hate to think how it might have performed in a hard shunt. Fortunately I was only installing it in a simulator I was building.

Larry, Halls recovered leather Pantera seats fit very well, are much better padded than the original vinyl covered ones were and don't have that rib bolster to climb over every time.

The Scheel seats fit the best of the aftermarket ones. Those were the fabric covered ones and Scheel has been gone a long time already, but just being analytical here.
Larry, I am not sure if you are specifically after a set of Recaros? But if not I can only recommend these Seats. They are much more comfortable than they actually looks, as a reference I drove for 18 hours more or less non-stop after last years Le Mans Classic and my Back was in super condition afterwards Big Grin

btw they are bolted directly to the Floor without any Rails.

Thanks to everyone who replied.

It now appears Recaro has done very little change to their seats in the last 20 years. Their current "Speed" series seats appear in size and style to be nearly identical to my seats installed in 1995.

I have always loved their fit and feel as have all passengers. Very little side bolster compression in over 55,000 miles of driving and their cloth fabric has held up very well.

A bit pricey, but....you get what you pay for.

Those are really nice. I like them. Are they covered in vinyl or leather?

Which model is that seat?

Hi you say bolted without any rails, why are they to tall for fitting rails?
Hemihunter, I initially installed them with the Rails that I got from BF-Torino together with the Seats. But I just felt that I was sitting a bit to high up and therefore I choose to bolt them directly to the Floor. What I did was to insert 4 8mm Studs in the Seat and then a Washer and Nut on each on the underside. Works nice and it is easy to unbolt an take out if needed (not that I ever did) I choose also the Vinyl cover with that characteristic imitated wowed look and I believe the look is really true to the 70´s Smiler
SF, I didn't lower the Floor or anything. The leg room is perfect I am 183cm tall and 110kg so not exactly a midget. I can stretch my left leg fully past the Clutch Pedal and since 99,9999% of the time I am the Driver, then I saw no reason to install the Rails. Here is another photo btw. The delivery time was a few days, the owner of the shop is Mr Billstein or something similar and he is very helpful. In fact when I bought them my Paypal was temporary declined (from paypals side since I was in Asia during the purchase they blocked it due to security) Then eventually I ended up paying them twice and Mr. Billstein instantly refunded the second payment and was very easy to deal with.

best
Jan

I was told that when Ford rejected those seats as 'unproducible', A. DeTomaso took them back, stripped the upholstered blocks off and used the aluminum bases as the seats in the GR-4/GT-4 racers. Whether that was how he used up all of them or if Santiago & Steve Wilkinson found some in the Modena storage warehouse that was unloaded last summer. Call Steve. I did see a home-made version somewhere a few years ago.
Back to Recaro-

Previous posts mentioned deleting slide-rails for mounting.

Quella modified my Recaro seats to retain the sliders, and provide mounting studs that passed through the original mounting bosses in the floor.

Large washers and nuts on the bottom side.

I can speak with authority (sigh) that this mounting system will remain solid and intact in a serious frontal impact.

Larry didn't ask about BF Torino or the one piece shells. Please keep this topic on the subject of Larry's inquiry regarding Recaro seats.

If you guys wanna shoot the shit about BF Torino seats or the original one piece metal buckets designed by Tom Tjaarda, that's cool. Please show Larry some respect and start a new thread. Or ... since there is a whole sticky about seats, these two off-topic subjects would be a great addition there!

Thank you
George I understand your frustration. Already the first reply mentioned a different Seat brand than Recaro. Are we supposed to keep our replies so Sterile that we can't make any suggestion at all? I am just concerned that potential valuable information or "eye openers" could go to waste perhaps. But I will try harder to comply and to be more aware of the rules, no problem.

BTW, am I allowed to wish everybody a Merry Christmas here?
