recessed or frenched turn and side lights

I built buckets and recessed the lights for mine in the front. I chose to use a standard marker light available at any auto store. It so happens now there are 100's of them many in LED.

These are LED and they barely rise out beyond the body. They barely clear the headlight bucket internally which is something to keep in mind.

When I built the air dam I also built it around generic fog lamps. I got these at Autozone. Since they were cheap I bought a few extra sets and set them back for when these are damaged.

There was a thread somewhere here where the side marker lights used a plastic cover, flush with the body, which was painted the color of the car but the light was visible. The guy who did it wasn't willing to disclose the secrets behind it though.

Thanks Tom, I can't wait to get the flat black hood and decklid on. It will be a while. I am working on the power steering and suspension but I am laser cutting new a-arms.....when we can fit it in.

Maaaannnn, that is soooo close to the color I'm looking for! Think I'm going a bit darker with a little more amber... if I can find it. That car and your work, nice. Your site has given me quite a few ideas and help, Thanks for that.

I did not realize there was not too much room in front of the light buckets, will have to revisit that area.

Also been toying with the idea of inserting a light strip into a fabricated bumper, but might be beyond my fabrication skills, will see once I find a light vendor.

I actually bought a light strip from the local hot rod shop. It comes attached to a steel plate. I was not too keen on the one I got but there are a lot of shapes out there in the hot rod magazines and outlets.

If you like a Rootbeer color go to your local Toyota Dealer. I saw a Toyota Venza this weekend at the beach with a drop dead beautiful brown with lots of metal flake in the paint...it was a great looking color and since its a stock color its available anywhere in the country. Not sure what year model I saw but the 2011 model color is called Sunset Bronze Mica.

I actually inquired about this mod with one of the forum guys with not too much interest. I think its an excellent alternative for front turn signals.

YES, THATS what I was thinking of! At least for the front bumpers. Sure would like to get details on how that was done, seems easy enough if I can get a part or vender info for the lights, they look bright enough. If I can do that up front, that would free up the front pod area for maybe some higher HELLA running lights or such, or use the bumper for the running light strip and make a hella recessed turn light.

Gotta do something soon tho, my car is on hold until I figure out this lighting thing.
