I had inadvertently completely discharged my Red Top Optima battery.  It was reading ~6.2 V.


Just watched this video, and performed this procedure, and got my Optima Red Top (2020 vintage) back to full charge.

It took a while…  it took me a couple attempts with batteries set up in parallel to get the Optima to play nice with my charger.

I guess Optima is getting tired of getting what they say are “good” batteries back from angry customers, so they now tell you a method to recover them without buying one of their (or a $150) chargers.

They also explain about some of the advanced chargers, and desulphation capability…

PS> I haven't had much "stick time" with the recovered battery yet, so I don't know if I have any significant capability degradation, but at least it holds a charge, and my charger says it's fully charged.
