This is a Pantera for sale on E-Bay. It is number 4537297151 (sorry, I don't know how to set up a link).
The owner claims that this Pantera averaged 173MPH at Silverstate and was subsequently clocked at 228MPH. WOW!
The car is stock bodied and the engine appears to have stock heads and a simple 4 barrel Edelbrock manifold.
I have to believe that if these claims are legit, that this is a pretty well known Pantera! Does anyone recognize this car? Does anyone know what could possibly have been done to this engine to achieve such speeds? I have to assume that the ZF has been re-geared as well.
There is either more to the story (a different engine was used to attain the claims) or there is something to be learned from whoever set this thing up!
This is a serious inquiry. I'd like to know more about this powerplant, but I'm reluctant to contact the owner and waste his time since I already own a car and am not in the market for his. It sounds as if these claims of performance were made by a former owner, anyway, so he may or may not know anything about the specifics.
What do you think?!
Mooso.

Mike,
There has been some discussion of this car on this bulletin board and on the deTomaso list. It appears to be any early one of Junior Wilson's cars that was restored back to normal. On this board under "Cars For Sale", & "What's a Pantera Worth", See: http://pantera.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2250045562/m/9010051623
