i picked up a set of remote power locks from j.c.whitney, neat accessory kit, but>>>>>>>>>

the connecting rod that runs from the lock solenoid to the door lock rod is fastened to the door lock rod by a bracket with 3 set screws, there just does not seem to be enough room to bend the connecting rod and attach the bracket to the door lock rod without a real lot of binding occuring. the binding is a result of the angles involved.

i am considering welding the rods together, looks like that would get rid of the angles that are causing the binding, but if i am wrong, i just gave myself a lot more work.

has anyone done this???? i was able to find one prior discussion a bit on topic.

any advice is greatly appreciated

Ron,

I suspect that is a European trait, until I came to the US I never encountered a car with power locks that had a button inside! It still never makes sense to me, why do you want to lock the car from the inside, then you can't get out? Big Grin

with older style 'central locking' in the UK one used to unlock the driver door with the key and the 'central locking' unlocks all doors simultaneously. Subsequent versions went to a remote key fob with a button, hence the term 'remote central locking'. Usually a UK car will auto unlock when you close the door in the locked position to prevent inadvertently leaving your key in the ignition (key in ignition warning buzzers are another US only trait), but you can force a UK car to lock by holding the door handle up while closing the door.

Drive thru Harlem and you will be locking those doors from the inside. Actually its a good idea with the button ... for many reasons, like if you have small children, to lock all the doors at once prior to leaving the car, or unlocking all the doors for a bunch of passengers upon arriving at the car.

Anyway I have to check out 9138 and see if it has this option .. I have never had the door panels off.

This is the system in my '86 5-S. When you turn the key to unlock the door, both door locks pop open. The reverse is true when locking. Same thing when you lock or unlock the door from the inside.

Does anyone know where to get replacement solenoids, or from which car they originally came? (Roland, might you know?)
