I am happy to report the ZF issue that appeared after I had a new fifth gearset installed by a well known ZF specialist has been resolved.

Not by the vendor, however.

The ZF refused to stay in reverse. Only with constant force on the gearshift could I move more than two feet in reverse.

The culprit is the stud located in the yellow circle.

With the ZF mounted to an engine stand, I manually put it into reverse. I then proceeded to unscrew the stud, 1/2 turn at a time, taking measurements of this gap.

If the stud was up against the reverse gear, and thus keeping it from fully moving into position where the detent could hold it in place, the gap would increase as the stud was unscrewed.

Guess what?

Thanks go out to Ron McCall, who knows his way around the ZF far better than I, for confirming this small gap increase is indeed enough to correct this problem.
