Rhino Line ???????

I did mine with Duplicolor spray in liner a few years ago.Still looks like new!'

I had my Toyota Tacoma Rhino lined about 6 years ago.I would do it in the engine compartment of my Pantera if I didn't have other projects that are more important right now. I'm the same way, I crawl in and out of that area alot so I sure wouldn't paint it.

I saw one that was done at Vegas last year, in black. It looked great! I checked with a vender about the application process. He saw the car too. He also doesn't belive the heat from the headers will be a problem. And because the tool that sprays it on is 5 feet long, the motor should be out to get a good even coat everywhere. It can be in any color too. Let us know what you do.

Uhhhh.... if you're thinking of simply having the stuff sprayed OVER the asphalt undercoating already in there, be aware that all the Panteras I've seen with Rhino-liner have first stripped the nasty old stuff out before having Rhino applied. I don't know if it even works as an overcoat; since the OEM asphalt stuff may well have rust and moisture underneath it. It is an alternative to painting, not strippeng. This is a fairly new application (the 1st one I saw was only 3 yrs ago), so its too soon to tell if there's a downside. So far, its held up extremely well and looks good, while cleaning up easily. The slight motions of the fiberglas rear tub, even when heavily loaded with luggage doesn't wear it away, at least to date.

No. I will strip the asphalt undercoat off before the application process. It is the only way to do it. Thanks for the tips. Anyone else have any feedback?

Did you use the Duplicolor truck bed coating? How did you apply it?

My engine bay was smoothed and painted gloss black like the car.I scuffed the entire thing with 320 grit paper and used a spray can .It comes out great and is extremely durable.I spilled brake fluid all over it bleeding my clutch and it didn't effect it at all.It cleans up easy and looks great!

Before choosing Rhino Liner, check out Line X. They have a national web site. I think this one looks a bit classier than the Rhino. Smaller grain. Colors are also an option you should consider. I am planning on doing my engine compartment in a silver to compliment my body paint color when the tree-crash repairs being done at Byars reach that point. I have also seen a fellow PCNC member's job he did, with engine in car, from spray cans of the trunk splatter paint that came out GREAT. Remember, the key to any paint job is the prep - lots of it.

Larry, your right. Line-x is the way to go. This site shows you what its used for in the military. The videos are cool too. Bomb protection! Add $200 for color.

I am in the process of finishing my engine compartment, and my two cents are these: Finined the metal with POR 15, this stuf is tuff, just don't subject it to UV. I used Dupli-color truck bed liner for the tub. Application with a 6100-6 cup gun and a 3/16 nozzle. Stinks like hell but looks great. I thinned 3/4 gal with 1.5 Pt. Acetone. Make sure the surface is clean. Clean all surfaces with Acetone first, please use a fan, don't breathe the fumes, or you won't taste anything for a week, and slight brain damage may occure, I think?

Rather than recover it in felt or carpet or whatever that stuff is, I used black Line-X on my trunk pan, and it looks great. I'm thinking of using it on the underside of the decklid to help deaden the crashing thunder sound when going over bumps.

I have been working on my engine bay for the past couple of weekends. I am probably another weekend from actually spraying it with Duplicolor Truck Bed Coating (pn# TR250). My question is, what areas do folks typically cover. Just the areas where the undercoating was, or everything that was previously black. Qustion 2, What about the frame rails? Spray them as well? I used Herculiner on the underside of my rear truck pan. Had on there a years or so, and it still looks great and wears like iron.
