Right Hand drive numbers

Herb Grass converted his car to RHD when he went to Australia. Ghia also offered him the last five RHD conversion kits for nothing when he made the purchase. I suppose he took them.

Hi Dick, I am only looking at original Right hand drive cars. I am going to reconvert ( Herbs' car) 718 back to Left hand drive as it left the factory with a concourse restoration starting later this year. I have not seen any other converted cars as such and do not know what happened to those other kits. Original Right hand drive cars have different steering racks and a host of differences incorporated during manufacture. They were not first made as left hand drive and then converted. The easiest give away is the wiper spindles - all Magusta's wipe the passenger side of the windscreens better than the drivers side. Original Right hand drives are the opposite to Left hand drives. So do we start to reference 10 original right hand drive cars?

I was only offering that as information. The last I heard was that Herbs car went to India with him and was painted purple pearl.

Dick, thanks for the information. Herb sold the car in Australia in 1986 prior to him leaving. He did paint the car numerous times during his ownership. Originally black then orange, silver and red. I purchased 8MA-718 in 1988 with the intention of restoring it and at that stage it had to be right hand drive to use it on Australian roads. Family priorities etc did not allow this and I really did wish for an original right hand drive car. I was lucky enough to get 1302 and with some recent work made it presentable. I feel to do 718 justice it should be converted back to left hand drive and presented as it left the factory in 1969. Luckily over the last 25 years or so I have accumulated many of the hard to get parts for the restoration.
