Just received my new oil pan and I noticed a little surface rust under the front baffle.
Does anybody think this is a problem or have a thought on how to clean it out?

Can you take it back, looks new with the exception of the rust.

If you are stuck with it I would medea blast it then coat it in oil. Once you have oil in the pan I doubt it will ever be a problem again. I would stay away from the solutions that convert the rust unless you plan on painting it when done. They would convert the rust but the surface would need to be coated. Otherwise the converted rust could contaminate the oil.

I am now leaning toward a metal cleaning product by PPG (either DX-533 or DX-579).
