Forest,

When I installed satellite radio in my Wife's SUV, I didn't want to mount the antenna on the roof, so I discussed alternatives with a tech at Monster Cable. He said there can be no metallic objects between the antenna and the sky. He also said, the higher the antenna is mounted, the better it will work, and that the more horizontal the mounting surface, the better. I ended up mounting it inside the SUV's hollow rear spoiler and it worked fine although not as well as the installations that mount the antenna on the roof. As an alternative to mounting it under the dash, if you have the factory plastic front hood vents, you could make a horizontal bracket that mounted the antenna beneath one of the vents.
Ron,

That's exactly where Porsche puts their satellite and GPS antennas. I find it interesting that it works because the tech I spoke with at Monster Cable told me to make sure there was nothing metallic between the antenna and the sky, and the Pantera wiper grilles are metal. Just goes to show, you can't always believe what the tech reps tell you.
If the fiberglas dash mount doesn't work and you're handy (and I know Forest is), suggest adding a 'Boxer' spoiler behind the rear window opening on the deck lid, and sink the antenna into the fiberglas. As a real air-managing spoiler for a Pantera, Boxer slats are useless, but as an antenna holder, they have some promise, and are not as showy as a rear wing (the non-aluminum wings could also have the antenna hidden inside).
