I understand from different sources there were anywhere from 3 maybe 4, to another source claims 9 Shelby DeTomaso Panteras. The only ones I have knowledge of is film maker Jim Hansens car, & BelgiumBarrys cars. Shelby always built three of everything, and if anyone has knowledge of one for sale, I have a buyer. Please advise. Perhaps the original Shelby Mark V [aka Mangusta] will ring a bell to many, if not google it on cobraranch.com. Where is that car today? Can it be bought? In the interum, George P & Pantera Doug, do you have any knowledge of one for sale? Cobra Jeff did you ever hear anything on the white one at Shelbys in 2005? Would love to find the 1983 PANTERA that says DODGE on the side, with the Chrysler small block w/940 [twin turbo] HP. I'll just bet even money theres a couple Shelby Panteras residing/hiding in Cali as we speak. Anyone with knowledge please send me a PM.

Hello Simon; Don't feel alone in regards to "sharkey" NOT answering your PMs, as mine have also NOT been replied to!

Seems if there's no financial gain, then sharkey is NOT interested!

Just sayin'

But Donald dont ask me anything ,I think when Donald ask me something and I send him a reply he answer me.
When you post something and ask for something you need to answer the replay's.
Thats how it is when you are neatly.

It's a bit of a one way street with Sharkey I'm afraid, always asking the forum to provide info on cars he then gets a finder fee or commission on!
Sharky, that is not a good reputation that you have.

Rolls right off my back. I'm not out to win any popularity contest. Here are the facts: Nobody in this entire world [since 1977] has sold more Panteras than I, and nobody EVER will catch up. Only the factory has sold more cars than I have. So in terms of numbers, I have cars in every state, and most countries in the world. Some of these cars were sold decades ago, & family members contact me, I'm the same guy, same phone number, that sold them the car. They sometimes want another, most time want the car to go away. I sell the car again, often over and over. I have people from every nearly every corner of earth visiting this office. In real world numbers, like it or not I'm the man. Now in real world MONEY, once again, nobody can touch me, not even close. I've sold, in less than 90 days, currently, seven figures in Pantera. Over a million is sales. They are all documented. The numbers don't lie. You've seen me world wide on TV, on stage at Barrett & Mecum for years, buying & selling. By the end of 2016, I'm on track to do a minimum 5 million, could even break ten. Again, just facts. Like Geroge P said, I'm good for the hobby. I keep the forum up to date on pricing & real world sales, for the betterment of DeTomaso aficionados. I set records. I pay high for cars, I never sell junk. While a few don't like me on the forum, that's the way the cookie crumbles. I have a job to do.

A common courtesy such as answering a PM/PMs can garner exponential dividends/rewards.

It's not about that. The problem being, I never ever went to the private messaging box, I did everything on the main forum. Never once thought to go there until today. Theres a heap of messages there. Now I have to figure out how to answer them all with out going onto the general forum. I answered one as a test and it went on to the general forum, not private. I never answered them because I never saw them.

Go to your browser, type in Shelby Pantera - Forum. It will take you to numerous pages. Fun reading, especially the ones that had the Chrysler emblem on the front bumper, the 340 small block, and the one that had a huge DODGE decal on the side. That was a hoot! Pictures are there showing a couple in Shelbys Cali operation. I believe those were taken back in '05, not that long ago.

I had only heard of the one that was converted to a 340 back in '83. That was the one covered in a magazine article.

If that article didn't call everyones attention to it, NO ONE would have ever known.

They WERE NOT US Certified. Look OUTSIDE of the US. They COULD NOT legally be sold in the US back then.

I knew nothing of the others. As far as I know, discussion of 9 is just recent within the last two years?

Jeff Burgy would be the one to ask, aka, CobraJeff. You can PM him on this forum.

That was all a "Chrysler deal". Iococca was involved. He wanted an "Italian exotic" in the Chrysler offering.

He had done the same thing at Ford with the Pantera.

It was before they purchased Lamborghini.

Shelby had a services contract with Chrysler like he did with Ford back in the Cobra days.

Iacocca brought him in to soup up the econo boxes Dodge was making.

The Diablo I remember Iacocca driving at the press introduction in '92 I believe. The Diablo essentially was built with Chrysler 's money. Hardly anything like Chrysler could build?

How Belgium Barry knew his was originally one of the Shelby cars, you need to ask him.

It is entirely possible and probably highly likely that the current owners have no idea they were one of the Shelby/Chrysler cars?

I would presume that Kevin Marti could research that for you? I would think that since there are only 187 of the 9000 series, you may have alreay seen some unknowingly?

I would take an educated guess though and say the serial numbers are all around Belgium Barry's?
Belgium Barry's GT5-S has paperwork from the purchase price from DeTomaso.

It was a cheap package deal of 3 Pantera's
$88kk ,#9425,9426,9428

Shelby only put a Amerisport aircleaner and emission parts on it .
all those information you can read on Chuck Meltons site
enter VIN #9425
There is also a letter where they talk about 2 more Pantera's

I do believe that at some point Shelby was aware of the Panteras?

The fact that his name, or corporate name appeared on the invoices was an "accounting" trick.

The 'Boss 429's' were all invoiced to him at Ford and appears to have been part of the issue of him ending the "Shelby" Mustang program at Ford?

Three of the MkI GT40's were invoiced to him as well. I think 101, 102, and 103.

They all were the 'team' cars wearing the dark blue colors. 289's with Webers.

The MarkII's and IIb's I think were Hollman-Moody cars since the 427 program was given to them by Ford.

What team actually prepped and raced them, you need to look in the 'texts' for that?

Same thing happened with the '68 GT40's. They were no longer called GT40's at that point. They were called 'Gulf's' and ran Boss 302's.

In that case I believe Gulf had 'purchased' the rights to the cars and the team was run by John Wyer I believe?

All Ford's money until 1970 when they "dropped out" of racing which is what happened to detomaso's racing plans and the racing development of the 351c which really had come out of Ford's 'Indy Program'.

They had cast the engine up out of aluminum and it never went to any of the racing teams as such.

The engine development was picked up by Bud Moore who was running in NASCAR and TRANS-AM then.

Carroll Smith reported to Ford that the Pantera COULD NOT be made into a race car and everything died except the four Gp4 Panteras.

Considering Warren Stroppe got one through the program because his father ran it for Ford here in the US, those were PROBABLY Ford money also.

The 'Australian block' certainly was but that happened as Ford was cutting ties, i.e., funding to the racing programs.

Just really bad timing for the racing Pantera program.
