In my never ending attempt to complicate what should be a relatively simple repair, I now have a shift linkage issue.

I replaced my original and worn out shift support with a very nice brass and rubber version. To do the install I separated the adjustable shaft at the two universal joints. Even with plenty of PB Blaster it required some tapping with a rubber mallet to remove the shaft from the splined shafts.

I cleaned both the splined shafts with a small Dremel wire wheel and the inside of the cast (?) U-joints. I am now experiencing a problem with re-attaching the rear u-joint to the shaft from the ZF. Other than an old screwdriver pried into the cut slot what can I use to open the joint. Also how much pressure can I exert on the slot without breaking the casting? Any other suggestions on this project?

...one more thing I would like to add, is; Besure to SCRIBE a 'Witness' Line in the ROD, In relation to the Joint. I used the 'Split' of the joint and scribed there, on the rod. Before I take them apart!! Anywhere You take apart the Joint and rod, You Must 'Index' It for Exact Reassembly!...
