While taking the Pushbutton out for her monthly spin, I noticed a noise when shifting into second gear. It didn't sound like grinding from the gear box but more like in the linkage. I checked the entire linkage while having my wife go through the gears. I could hear a clicking, binding sound but couldn't visually see any problem. I opened up the shift selector box and was greeted with the sight of 35 year old solidified grease. I had never thought of opening and re greasing this area. I could actually see something binding and clicking in the internal linkage. I cleaned it up and re greased the entire linkage system. Success, no more binding. It seems that the hardened grease and lack of lubrication was causing the ball area to bind. Just another area to check, I never thought of it!
