Shifter Centering

I have read a few posts about this subject. Like this one:

My shifter does not spring back to center from the 4-5 side. It's fine from the R-1 side. I had this problem before and replaced both springs and clips and gaskets on both sides of the input shaft. The problem went away but now it's back. The linkage is not hung up on the firewall and the trunion bearing is lubed and linkage seems to move freely.

Is there something else that can be causing this?

The first place I'd look is in the shifter mechanism under the console. There are mechanisms inside that might need attention. If thats all OK, the next place is in the ZF itself....
