...Sounds like You may have One or Both Springs, Broken on the 'Cross-Shaft' at the Shifter 'Box', Found on the Left/Rear of the ZF.
Also; on the Bottom of that same 'Box' You'll find two small rubber plugs! Remove those and You will gain access to 2 Setscrews Inside, That keep a componant from slipping along the Cross-Shaft. These set screws come loose at times. If loose, The Componant Must be readjusted and the Setscrews tighened Up! Removing the side cover will make things a little easier, and NO!! Oil will NOT run Out!
There is only Thick Grease in There! Having the Side cover off will allow You an oportunity to Re-Grease-Up the Internals!!

Last, If You have had trouble getting the Shift Lever (In the Cockpit) To move far enough to the Left; to ENGAGE Reverse And/Or First Gears, 9 Times out of 10, this problem is caused by the 'Back-Up Indicater SWITCH'; Being Screwed IN TOO FAR!...
