Is there some way to tell the difference between an ordinary clutch slave cylinder and the long throw? I have a nice stainless steel slave on my car now, but how could I tell if it is long throw or not?
The simplest way is to have a friend push tghe clutch ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR while you get into the access hole in the top of the bellhousing with a feeler gauge. If you can push a 0.040" feeler gauge (or larger) between the clutch disc & flywheel, it's a long-throw. Most brand-new Panteras could not get 0.040" of disengagement, which is still only 020" on each side of the disc- not very much!
I replaced my standard throw with a long throw recently. The inside diameter of the standard throw is 0.991 inches and the long throw measures 0.866 inches. I guess I will use my old one as a paperweight or something.
