Snow Cats

Here's my favorite picture of mine in the snow....

This is as close as I can get.

2511 up on Mt Charleston during the Vegas Fun Rally back in April of 2005.

#3336 playing in the snow...

It may look pretty, but winter's a real mess. I had arranged to meet a trailer just across the US border to take me to CA. So Carmen came to the rescue with his flatbed and saved me the trouble of getting very salty and dirty on the ride to the border.

But you can’t tow it across without a LOT of paperwork. So I drove it across.

Big thrill for the crossing guards.

Not so much for me.

A few miles in this ruined the underneath of the car and now 2 years later I am still redoing the damage. Like driving on the salt flats and then sitting in the rain. Yuk.

Ok. It's not all bad. Here's a nicer one.

But rain, shine or snow, I can always count on these guys to make my day.

Hey David,
I thought you did not tow a Pantera rear first ?
Air flow getting under the deck lid and possibly forcing the lid up and maybe over the top.

And he is looking down on your car why ?

He's looking for my wipers (duh) so that he can place a ticket under them. The ticket was for parking too far from the curb.

All this while I was standing right there - chopping ice in my driveway. I had moved the car a foot away so it didn't get splashed.


As for the rear tow, it was 20 mins at 40 mph. Not much air flow!

It sounds like you are their monthly quota filler. I suggest something less conspicuous, like a Yugo. Drive the Pantera at night.

Ok, back to the nice snow pics. I'm loving those cats in the snow - sgarrett's especially. Looks like he drives it in the winter.

I'd drive mine in the snow, but my snowboots don't fit the pedals..........

Thanks David...actually, I just backed it out of the garage to take the picture . I love all of Mark's pictures and wanted to try and get a good one of mine a few years ago. I don't ever drive it in the snow (I have driven the big block '73 vette roadster in blizzards back in Wyoming though...not for the faint of heart.).

Got the car all tucked away at my father-in-law's house now. Lots of rennovations going on in the room above the garage and I don't want any sort of "accident" to happen. We had a couple day reprieve of snow here and I managed to get it over there with clear roads.

In 2002, my nephew graduated from high school and as a graduation present I took him on a 2000 mile tour of Colorado. It was in October and we hit a lot of weather but had an absolute blast. He drove the Pantera nearly every mile. These are just a few of the photos we took on the journey. Everytime we made it to a summit, we would stop and take a photo. We were extremely underdressed...mostly t-shirts and shorts.

Now that is fantastic! Truly inspirational for all cat lovers.

Tell us more details about those 2000 miles. Handling in the cold and wet? Heater? Defroster?

I do need to say that I don't intentionally try to use the Pantera as a snow plow but I also know that they don't melt if you get them wet. New Mexico is so dry that if I get into some weather, I enjoy it!

My nephew commented on the heater in the Pantera as "awesome" but then you don't really have that much area to heat up! No problems at all with the defroster but as you probably know you can turn the air conditioner on and open your heater valve to warm the air and it will defrost the windows in no time flat.

There were no handling issues since Hesston drove carefully (read white knuckled) when the roads were snow covered. In another drive that my wife and I took to Vermont, we encountered some snow and found out the Pantera can swap ends in a heartbeat (I reminded Hesston of that fact). A photo of that trip to Vermont in the snow made it on the cover of PI back in the Winter 1994 issue (number 81).

The only "problems" we encountered in Colorado were trying to get the Pantera to start in the mornings after being left outside in the hotel parking lots when the temperatures were WAY below freezing at night.

I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

David / Mark, bring your cameras this summer (duh!) ... that picture I posted earlier in this thread is taken at 7,900 feet in June!

Needed a little V8 rumble today, so I could have something to live on towards the summer. Just to bad I forgot to take photos. Here in my part of Norway, it has for a month been so cold you would not belive it, but today the temperature climbed to 26°F, so stil a bit cold but I had to fire her up. The engine is raw and strong, but sitting inside blipping the trottle in the cold fresh air made the enging allmost explode on every blipp. The big difference in summer-temperatures, and todays temperature made a bit of a difference for sure. Natures own intercooler.....

Since I had to work a bit on my old Caddy today, I had to drive the cat out, and being from Norway, I could not be the only one not have a pic of the car in the snow. Tried to show of the 1,5' of snow in the background. Cant wait for the summer

Are those Ford GT wheels or FR500's? And did they require spacers? If so, what size wheels and spacers did you use?

Ford's SVO FR500. 9" taken to 11 in the rear. Had to space it 2". Run 295's.

Many Pantera owners are afraid to drive their cars in the rain.
What a great story and pics! You are also a fantastic uncle. Memories for a lifetime for you and your nephew.

Suffice to say that I really enjoy driving my car. I had wanted one forever and when I finally got it, my plan was to see how much I could NOT keep it in the garage.

This photo is from the trip we took back in 1993. The photo is our car in the middle of Vermont, about 2000 miles from home. Shortly after this photo was taken the snow really piled up and the Pantera ever so gently told us that was enough...it did a 180 degree spin and pointed us in the other direction. We found a hotel and continued our journey the next day in better weather.

That trip was nearly 6000 miles in 16 days. Oh yeah, premium fuel was as low as $1.10 a gallon at the time!

I remember when you took that trip -sure made for some great photos! As I remember, there is quite a story that goes with the pictures. I will have you know -you inspire me to drive my car at every opportunity!! I recently drove it to Albuquerque (150 mile round trip) just for a visit to the dentist. I thought about dropping by but ran out of time. Next trip -promise!!

You get an "Atta Boy" from me! Everyone knows it's no fun being at the dentist. Thats why I ALWAYS drive the Pantera to the dentists office...at least I know the trip TO and FROM the dentist will be enjoyable!

Snow? What snow? It's almost the end of January and there's no snow around me - very unusual! But if there was, I wouldn't be able to get a shot anyway, my town seems to think that 2" of salt is the appropriate response to the threat of 1" of snow.

Exactly, Russ. I'd drive in the winter if it wasn't for the extreme salt. On nice days the roads are dry - but covered in salt!
