I have used both factory and Flaming River.  I recently revisited the factory u-joints and got them to to work well.  I soaked them in automatic transmission fluid (ATF) overnight and that helped loosen them.  Then heated them sparingly with a propane torch and it loosened them more.  After a final soaking in ATF they were essentially perfect.

If you already have the factory units maybe give the above a try and save more than $300.

Out of curiosity, I rebuilt a couple of OEM shifter u-joints. This was the subject of a POCA Newsletter article a few years back. They are not really designed for this, but the bearings are available, and you can add o-rings to new bearings for dirt seals. The OEMs do not have seals.

But the bearings are only held by press fit and its possible to enlarge the holes in the body during rework, such that the bearings will walk back out in heavy use. I used red Lock-tite on the second one. All in all, it's not worth the effort when there are better units readily available.
