Better show up in court or they'll put out a warrant for your arrest. Hope the cop(s) don't show up, maybe they'll dismiss the charge. Ask to take the driver improvement school, that'll keep it off you driving record. You'll probably be spending a Saturday in driving school class. No radar/laser detector?
You should plead "temporary insanity" and tell the judge (s)he can take it for a test drive with the original cop who pulled you over in the passenger seat.

Then show them both that you are paid up to be at PCNC's 2005 Vegas Track Event, as part of you self initiated "counselling program" to fulfill your need for that adrenanaline high you're getting addicted to. And tell them you only plan to "see what it will do" once a year at the PCNC Vegas Track Event. Such as the plan is, you'll continue being a law abiding citizen in good standing in their community, with the error of your ways behind you, thanks to their insightful lecturing....

Keep a straight face to pull this one off in court! I suggest you make the offer to the police officer and juddge "in chambers" and out of earshot of the rest of the gallery in the coutroom. They may thumb thru your court file and see your driving record is pretty clean and let you go with a deferred sentence, meaning no more traffic infractions for a specified period of time.... Let us know how it turns out.
You may not believe this but it actually worked for me. Make a note of this for future reference:

As I exited the freeway toward my quiet little neghborhood, I braked firmly and downshifted wiggling towards the apex. As the car settled into second I slowly put my foot down. This was my favourite left handed hairpin and the longest way home. Quickly working the steering to avoid the fast approaching curbing (which I admit has, more than once, barely nicked my right side wheels but sometimes was worth the hour of sanding and polishing the dings if I got it just right). As the revs climbed and I took my eyes off the curbing, relieved I had missed it again, I looked ahead only to suddenly be facing two stopped police cars and four astounded cops staring at me in disbelief.

With my heart beating I braked hard and got out. I quickly walked toward the cops and they followed me back as I immediately opened my rear deck I pointed out the MSD kit, and fiddling with the wire, all the time explaining how "...I just spent all day trying to find this electrical gremlin that only comes out at 4,000 RPM on hard left hand turns. There's just no other way to test it, so I waited 'till late at night when no one would be around and tried to see if I finally fixed it."

I asked them if they had any experience in electronics and had any idea what it could be - all this before they had a chance to arrest me. One cop was ready to take his gun out but the others were so caught off guard by my quick action that they either believed me or were too impressed looking at my engine to do anything. While they sheepishly started looking at the engine, wondering what problem I could have had, I apologized for having scared them and admitted I was foolish but had been on this exit so many times, there was never any traffic at this time, blah blah blah... and then went home - shaking my head.

Great story David! My experience with the QPF is that you must have given quite a convincing performance! If it had been me, I'd still be rotting in Jail dreaming about release, which, with my limited knowledge of French, would likely be a long time away! I hope you're putting this crappy weather to good use getting your baby ready for it's first spring soiling. Smiler
Hey Kat, what does a California Kid know about QPP or Sureté? Are you a smart ex-Canadian or are you married to one?

Mark, I'm trickle charging my battery and trying to figure out what to do about my lousy seats. I'm coming to visit you as soon as the jet blowers come dry the streets and dust off a few tons of salt!
I guess ex-Canadian says it all. Finally got my green card last year.

Born in Kingston, raised in Ottawa and had a cottage near Maniwaki (Quebec). I'm half 'French Pea Soup' as my grand-father always teased me. Had about 10 tickets in Quebec back when they were called the QPP (before their name was francophonized). Got 6 of those tickets before I was 16 years old, driving my 450cc motorcycle on dirt roads. My father is a lawyer, had them all thrown out Big Grin . The only ticket that ever did stick, was passing on a double solid line on Highway 105, when I was around 18 years old.

The only thing I miss is the beer... thank god they have micro-breweries around here, cauze all of the bottled stuff sucks.
So, the cop showed up in court and it wasn't dismissed. Sorry to hear that. Are you going to be able to keep it off your driving record after successful completion of all the above? How about the lecture from the judge? Shotgundude, we want to hear about that lecture....
Don't be too sure. When I lived in CA, 1980-87, I went to traffic school a dozen times. It was always in a different County. Once the County Court dismissed it, it never went on DMV's records. So, just pick up a new, bigger speeding ticket in a different County, and voila, back in D-school in three months! How about that! New info!
