I'm in the process of getting my car back together, after about a year of replacing numerous things. I'm putting on new stainless water pipes as well as new hoses and clamps. Question isBig Grinoes the speedo-cable go under or over the water pipes? When routed under both of them it fits pretty tight. I know it will work either way but I'm tring to avoid problems in the future if I have to service or remove that part or other parts located in that area. As for the vacumm hose, does it route straight up? Another thing, is the trunion bearing a pain to replace once the engine is in? Thanks for any advice given...

Topcat,
I also have a '71. I don't follow your question. My speedo cable goes through a hole behind the driver seat, below where the accelerator cable goes through the firewall. From there it goes under the engine/trans to the right side of the ZF. It was held in place with a bracket connected near the back on the ZF. Make sure there aren't any sharp bends that may cause binding.
If you're looking from underneath, after it comes out of the firewall, does the speedometer cable go under both water pipes or over? Sorry about the confusion. If anyone is able to take a photo of this area (under the car) it would be greatly appreciated. It seems to bind somewhat if I route it under. Thanks again..
