when I took my car apart the speedometer cable ran through the 2 1/2 air tube. Is that normal?
Also are these tubes to provide air to the air cleaner or are they just a way to get more air into the engine compartment?

The tubes are part of the frame actually. From what I have seen, nothing goes through them as shipped from the factory. The speedo cable goes in clips between the water tubes on my car.
I intend to run a positive battery cable through my tubes, to an auxilliary fuseblock, in order to save the fusebox from electric fan current.

I did that also, I have two 25 amp fans.
From the fuse box, I removed the fuse to the fans and put in a breaker, then a #10 wire to a 50amp relay, I installed an adjustable thermostat that connected to the fans and is grounded. It has worked very well.
