I looked through previous posts to identify my half shafts and still can't make up my mind what I have?

All the U-Joint caps are marked Spicer USA P1649, the Dia. is 32 mm and width of the U-joint 106.5 mm (Std dimensions?). There are no visible markings on the half shafts I can see and they would appear more like the std ones in Chuck Meltons photos (they have been turned with the smaller end inboard). Are there retrofit hybrids or OEM shafts with replacment spicer U-J's? I guess I may have to resort to the take it off and weigh it method!

Secondly, I was thinking about upgrading to the Spicer half shafts but assuming what I have is a 'hybrid' or 'retrofit' is there any real advantage?

Thanks,
Julian

Yes, the stock half-shafts may have had the original u-joints replaced with Spicer u-joints. From the article I read it appears one obvious indication between the Spicer and the original half-shaft is the amount of metal added to the stock unit for balancing. When I compared the stock unit to the Spicer I noticed the machine work on the Spicer to be much nicer as were the castings.
