The gospel of DeTomaso that is. It was the summer of 2001. We were still in the age of innocense before the world was forever changed that fall. My son had a job at the local sonic bussing cars. He asked me if I would bring the P-car in on Friday night. He said that they had a car show kind of thing every Friday night and the more cars they brought in, the more cutomers would show up and the bigger his tips would be. So ever Friday night that summer, when I could, I went down to the sonic and would park my car amongst roadrunners and 51 mercs and Chevelles and such. And I was called upon to testify to the passersby about what kind of car this was, and it's history and what kind of engine and all that.
So there is this guy who shows up in his brand new Camaro and asks all the questions. Is it a kit car?? How fast will it go? You know, usual stuff. Now this guy was just spell bound. He was just fascinated. Well he starts showing up every Friday night. In fact if I missed a Friday he asks where I was.
So a few years pass and then one day I see him at a function my company was having. You know, like an open house sort of thing. Well I see this same young guy there and ask him what is up. Well turns out he got a job here, which is the highest paying job around these parts and he is working second shift. Now they pay well here, but you have to bust your butt too. SO I figure most folks don't hang in there for even a full year.
Well a year later this guy comes up to me all excited like. He had found a Pantera down in Charlotte and he got a second morgate on his house and he was buying it. It didn't run, but he was going to fix it up.
Well sure enough he did, and now people ask me if I know about the white Pantera here in town and I say yep, I know that guy.
So there you have it. The rewards of preaching the gospell. Not everyone hears the message and many more will fall by the way side. But bringing just one into the fold, is worth all the effort.
LET ME HEAR YOU SAY AMEN!!!!!

very, very, cool story DeTom. Thanks for sharing that my friend.

By the way,

Alejandro = Argentina

Alessandro = Italy

I have seen documents from the '70s, signed by Mr deTomaso, signed as Alessandro. The very earliest press releases announcing the agreement between Ford & deTomaso, also referred to him as Alessandro. I can't say which he preferred, Dave A or Kirk Evans would know. It may have changed as he grew older.

Were you aware that the deTomaso symbol, the one everyone refers to as the Isis symbol, has nothing to do with Isis? The blue & white background are the colors of the Argentinean flag, the symbol is a stylized "T", it was the family symbol used to identify (brand) cattle on the deTomaso "estancia" in Argentina. Seems Mr deTomaso was proud of his home country, even though he was living in Italy.

your friend on the DTBB
Yeah I just didn't want to offend our members from the europeon denomination of the brotherhood of the Pantera. We are all brothers in the house of DeTomaso.
I know Mr. Detomaso was compelled to leave his homeland by expressing his opposition to the dictator Pinochet who didn't take kindly to critisism. He went to AMerica and married a detroit princess, they moved to Italy and he started racing and the rest is history.
I guess I shouldn't have presented this in such a sacreligious manner, but I wanted people to read my witness, so I jazzed it up to make it like a comedy central kind of thing. But it is a true story. I wanted to share so people would see, they don't have to be a big buck racer, or a concours show winner, to promote the marque. Even someone like me promotes the marque by being proud of his car and sharing with people what it means to ya.
Yes the old owner had all the docs. It shipped from Naples Italy in 1985 to NY JFK and went to new owner in Norwalk Conn. Then was sold in 89 to the guy I bought it from. I could be the 3rd owner ..trying to confirm that.

Yes its a 79 Euro that the big bumpers were added to meet NY Inspection.

It has dual guages US and Metric.

Yes I'm not sure of how many made and so on yet, but I know #9137 is a GT5 that was raced and shows up on some sites. Mine is 9138.

Ron
Mine doesn't have the dual stuff. Just the metric. It also has that glow in the dark green stuff on the dials like stuff from WWII. I probably am getting gamma radiation everytime I drive. Oh well, all gotta die from something I guess. What a way to go though. Irradated to death by your Pantera gauges. Big Grin
